Forbes recently released an article discussing how self service kiosks are finally catching on with customers. They cited a 2019 survey that showed 25% of restaurant customers have used a self ordering kiosk at a restaurant within the past three months—up 7% year-over-year. Furthermore, 65% of customers said they would visit a restaurant more often if self serve kiosks were offered, and 30% of customers prefer to order from a kiosk versus a cashier if the lines were equally long. That’s quite a shift from about a year ago–in 2018 an MSN poll found that 78% of customers said they would be less inclined to go to a restaurant that has automated ordering kiosks.
Major fast food chains including McDonald’s, Subway, Wendy’s, Burger King, Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken are adopting the technology and adding self serve kiosks to their stores. Across the board, restaurant operators are finding that kiosk orders tend to be higher than orders from a human cashier. The self serve kiosks promote accuracy. They never forget to up-sell and people don’t feel judged for ordering certain menu items such as an extra large milkshake from a kiosk.
Sintel Systems offers a highly intuitive all-in-one self-serve kiosk which allows customers to place orders and pay for them right on the kiosk. Our kiosks are available in a variety of larger sizes and can be installed on poles, placed counter top, or mounted on walls. Kiosks are fully customizable; this spring we even designed a kiosk POS system for a temple.
We recently created a demo for casual family steakhouse Sizzler showing how customer friendly the kiosk and other Sintel Systems POS options are.
The kiosk POS system is just another addition to Sintel’s complete omni-channel solutions such as the Direct-to-POS online ordering platform. This system allows restaurants of all sorts to have a custom, secure website and mobile app to support customer ability for placing orders on the go. Using our omni channel approach customers can order with an employee using a hand held device at busy drive thrus, order from a kiosk, order from their phone or order from a computer. If they prefer, they can even order inside the restaurant from staff at the counter. All transaction from devices are seamlessly sent to the kitchen display system (KDS). Kitchen staff stays completely in the know of customer orders and what order to cook them in. That’s the goal of omni channel POS, service is provided to the customer where they want it, how they want it.
