Cafe Wang – Chinese Fusion Restaurant & Bar at the Heart of La Verne, CA

After almost one year at the heart of lovely Old Town La Verne close to the University of La Verne, Cafe Wang continues to offer delicious Chinese Fusion food. The restaurant is open 7 days a week for lunch, dinner, or happy hour at the bar. Their hours are: Sunday – Thursday 11:00 am-10:00 pm & Friday – Saturday 11:00 am-1:00 am–perfect for late night hankerings for tea and dumplings. The restaurant has a modern eclectic, yet relaxed ambiance, with exposed brick walls, funky lighting and a huge fish tank with tropical fish. The aesthetic of Cafe Wang seem to marry heritage and modernity, perhaps capturing the essence of the loving relationship between the owner of Cafe Wang Fang Wang and her son Chris Li, who manages the restaurant. Fang opened the restaurant in 2018, excited to share with La Verne the delicious Taiwanese dishes her father cooked during her childhood. Chris’ sense of style played a role in creating the restraint’s vibe. He’s responsible for creating the large menu and mouthwatering menu. Both Mother and son enjoy working together–in fact the entire Cafe Wang team is a close knit family–Wang has relatives employed at the restaurant that immigrated from Taiwan and now live in Pomona.
The menu has several well known American favorites such as orange chicken, kung pao chicken and fried rice.
Must tries on the menu include the chef recommended King’s golden eggs–hard-boiled eggs, surrounded by steamed pork meatballs and lettuce, topped with a special home-baked sauce.
Also fantastic are the king’s beef rolls.
On weekdays 11:00 am – 3:00 pm the restaurant serves a lunch special. Various dishes including Sweet & Sour Shrimp, Broccoli Beef and Cashew Chicken are offered as a combo with rice and a salad. Also on weekdays there’s a happy hour from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. Alcoholic drinks and snack items are discounted.
