The future is upon as some thinkers, inventors and such futurists of the world are advancing us for a future of planned green goodness. With iphones, robots, google glasses, and 3D printing upon us, it’s only a matter of time until all this technology shifts and changes the way we operate and facilitate exchanges of goods as a society.
The LA Times, Huffington Post, Design TAXI, International Science Times are all talking about the self-cleaning plate and cup made entirely out of cellulose created by Tomorrow Machine. A Swedish design company based in Stockholm and Paris, they specialize in package, product and food concepts. Innventia commissioned Tomorrow Machine to design 3 different product concepts for the year 2035. The result was a series of cellulose based products made using the innovative technology available today.
The plate and cup have a super-hydrofobic coating and therefore rejects dirt, like a lotus leaf. This means that it never needs washing. It’s a product that not only saves resources during manufacture, but also when it is used because it does not need water and chemicals to be kept clean.
What does this mean for business owners? It means change and impact in your inventory and a redesign of how you run business. We all want to be come more efficient in running our companies. Unlike the boom of the industrial age before us, we are learning from the mistakes of those products and tools that have been leaving a tumorous scar in our environment around us.
In addition to self-cleaning plates, Tomorrow Machine has also taken on their own independent project of sustainable goods. This neat little project called “this too shall pass” is an astounding concept of packaging with its contents working in symbiosis. Instead of taking several years for the packing to decompose, it has a similar shelf life to the product that it holds.
