Kmart Announces Hacking of Their Store Registers

downloadIn a scheme that seems to continue repeating itself, yet another store has reported malware in their systems. Kmart announced Friday that their systems had been compromised since early September.
An investigation is ongoing, but there is currently no information on how many customers were affected. However, Sears Holding Corp mentioned that kmart.com and Sears shoppers were not affected by the hack. Also, there is no evidence that customers’ PIN numbers, card numbers, or other personal information were stolen. Until exact numbers are discovered, the company recommends that any customers that shopped at a Kmart retailer between the beginning of September and this past week should check all bank statements. If any suspicious activity is noted, the customers should contact their card issuer or bank immediately.
Kmart now joins the list of retailers with their systems breached in the past year. Home Depot, Target, and Neiman Marcus were all affected. In addition, Albertson’s and Supervalu stores have also had their systems compromised by malware.
