Doug Sohn, owner of Chicago’s famous Hot Doug, recently announced that the restaurant will be permanently closing on October 3rd. A short message about a “permanent vacation” was posted on his website, letting his fans know of the closing.
According to DNAinfo Chicago, Sohn stated, “There really is no overwhelming reason other than it’s time to go do something else. The plan is not to own a restaurant anymore.”
The popularity of the restaurant is not news to anyone, as patrons have waited two or sometimes over three hours in line for a hot dog from Doug. After making appearances on television shows like “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations,” the restaurant hit national fame. Some customers have even gone as far as having a “Hot Doug” logo tattooed, receiving free hot dogs from Doug for life….or until October 3, 2014.
With comedic, memorable names such as “The Henny Youngman” or “(Definitely still just) The Charlie and James Sohn,” Doug’s hot dogs are a hit with everyone. Customers have started lining up more than ever, preparing for the closing just a month away.
