Credit Card Signing No Longer Required

The four major credit card companies including American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa will not longer require their customers to sign credit card purchases.
Linda Kirkpatrick, an executive vice president with Mastercard said, “In our digital, fast-paced marketplace, consumers appreciate any opportunity to save time. This is why Mastercard led the charge to officially ‘retire’ cardholder signatures from store receipts. “Merchants recognize that cardholder signatures have limited use, and are embracing this change to create efficiency for their customers.”
The change is due in part to the introduction of EMV (Chip Cards) in the United States in the past years. The technology reduces the rates of fraud and the US now joins Europe and Australia in eliminating signatures.
Retailers will continue to have the choice of take and keep signatures; however, large retailers such as Walmart and Target announced that they will discontinue the signatures by then end of April 2018.
In anticipation of such inevitable changes, Sintel Systems had implemented its technology to allow its wide portfolio of clients in the United States to eliminate the need for signatures. According to a company executive, “Sintel Systems has had this technology for years and been proving our clients the option of skipping the signature for smaller transaction. This has allowed our clients greater efficiency in fast paced environments such as fast-food, frozen yogurt, and bakeries.” The online-ordering team added, “Given the advance of our direct-to-POS Online Ordering Systems, more and more orders are being placed on line not needing signatures.”
