Burger King in Sweden is issuing a challenge to customers. As part of a promotional campaign for its plant-based offerings, Burger King restaurants in Sweden are daring their customers to order from theirs new “50/50 menu,” meaning that Burger King will randomly decide whether customers get a meat or meatless burger.
“We are really proud of how hard it is to tell our plant-based meatless burger apart from real meat,” said the marketing director for Burger King Sweden in a press release. “With the 50/50-menu, we hope that more people dare to try them. And hopefully have fun trying to figure out which one they got.” The promotion supports the recent addition of the plant based Rebel Whopper and Rebel Chicken King sandwiches to the Burger King Sweden menu. The sandwiches asre exactly like their counterparts the classic Whopper and Crispy Chickn sandwich, expect for the plant based patties that is.
Customers wanting to know which item they actually received will have to scan the sandwich box with their Burger King app, and enter a guess to view an answer. Burger King Sweden plans to release data regarding the accuracy of customer guesses after the promotion runs this summer.
We discussed before how fast food companies are leaning into meatless options as the number of customers who are vegan or vegetarian for a variety of reasons continues to grow. Even Chick-Fil-A is siad to be considering meatless entree options, joinging the ranks of Taco Bell, Carl’s Junior and Chipotle. Out of major fast food brands, only Arby has rejected meatless entree possiblities, instead they’ve recently built a marketing campaign focusing on meat.
Update: On August 1, 2019 Burger King announced that it will begin offering the Impossoble Whopper nation wide acorss the US 8/8.
