Social media websites rejoiced earlier this week when Starbucks Coffee announced it will be offering the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) before fall even commenced. Tuesday marks the official return of their most popular seasonal drink.
Starbucks unveiled the Pumpkin Spice Latte would be prepared with an all new recipe featuring real pumpkin. Following customers demands, Starbucks has removed all artificial additives and colors from the latte.
Don’t be fooled by the “real” pumpkin or removal of additives, a tall beverage contains a whopping 300 calories.
The famous PSL came into existence fall 2003, when the company first released the seasonal offering. Starbucks introduction of the PSL unleashed a fury of companies making their own seasonal concoctions. For the past decade grocery stores are plagued with pumpkin spice everything for autumn.
The chain of coffee shops was not the only QSR (quick service restaurant) to launch fall menu items early.
Dunkin Donuts has also debut its pumpkin lineup, which includes hot or iced pumpkin coffee and lattes, pumpkin donuts and muffins. Also expect to see fall goodies like Pumpkin Cheesecake Square and Pumpkin Pie Coolatta all made with real ingredients. Dunkin Donuts fall lineup became available on August 31.
Fast-casual restaurant, Panera, followed Starbucks and released menu items with all new preservative free recipe.
