It takes a lot to shut down a frozen yogurt shop considering our self-serve frozen yogurt store in North and South Dakota are always open, but a Nor’easter massive storm has 100 million Americas contained in its area covering from all of New England to West Virginia and parts of Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. Disruptions in merchant account services are typically a byproduct of heavy storms including super storm Sandy in late October of 2012. Given the East Coast importance in banking transactions, merchant account services are susceptible to disruption during massive weather events. Super storm (officially Hurricane) Sandy had our credit card processing centers located in New Jersey under feet of water; however, the pile structure of the building prevented any water to inflict damage on the infrastructure. The facility turned to backup generators and proceeded to operate; however, the transactions did also have the option of being rerouted through our centers throughout the United States. While most customers in the immediate path of the storm were closed, customers merchant accounts further out who depend on New Jersey/New York for processing reported very little disruptions.
As of Thursday evening, no disruptions in credit card processing were reported by Sintel Systems customers.
(Update January 3, 2014 11:45 EST – Storm cleared the area after leaving much snow behind and was now covering Nova Scotia to Notre Dame Bay.)
