Chicago Storms 'Strands' Sintel Systems POS Staff

June 13, 2013 – Chicago, IL – Lunch along the Chicago River at the Fulton’s on the River (315 North La Salle Street) did not suggest what was to come in the late afternoon and early evenings hours of Wednesday as Sintel Systems staff were planning their return to Los Angeles. After a week of visiting existing clients (restaurant, pizza, and frozen yogurt POS systems), celebrating the opening of new customers (frozen yogurt and pizza), meeting with partners, and enjoying the great offerings of the Windy City, Sintel Systems and Best Pizza POS dot com staff were stranded after their flight out of Midway International Airport and Southwest Airlines flights were cancelled. Across the City a series of powerful thunderstorms stopped trains and cancelled flights including those O’Hare International Airport.
855-POS-SALEStranded in Chicago is like a child being locked in a chocolate/candy store (i.e Fannie Mae) or frozen yogurt (i.e. yogurtland) overnight. The City has plenty to offer any day of the week, but the cherry on top this evening was the show the NHL (National Hokey League) Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks put on during their first game of the Stanley Cup Finals. A game that started on Wednesday ended on Thursday (@ 12:00 am exactly) with a double deflection goal. after a triple overtime when the regular game ended in a 3-3 tie.
So after discovering the flight cancellation, we headed to the the cool Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago located northwest of the Loop, south of Bucktown, west of Pulaski Park within West Town. The area originally pioneered by Charles and Joel Wicker who purchased 80 acres along Milwaukee Avenue is now home to many restaurants and bars including one of Chicago’s original lounge and bar offering natural agave tequila. Previously located at 1471 North Milwaukee Avenue, Salud Lounge opened its doors 2003. Our last visit to Chicago included a stop at Salud, but unfortunately it closed its doors in early 2013. Our target was a hip place that we could enjoy the Blackhawks game and some good food. We decided on tapas style and headed to High Noon Saloon at 1560 North Milwaukee Avenue. This Tex Mex restaurant was People Lounge until January 20, 2013 when it was changed to its current operation.
We had no idea that we were about to watch the 5th longest Stanley Cup finals game in a City that clearly stands behind its Hawks. The irony is that we left Los Angeles during the weekend when the LA Kings and Blackhawks were fighting for a spot in the Stanley Cup tied with 2 games each. Our arrival in Chicago seemed to have tilted the favor away from our hometown Kings when the Blackhawks advanced to the Stanley cup after a double overtime 4-3 game. The quest for the cup at the Untied Center, started what was going to be the Blackhawk’s 5th overtime game in the playoffs. After being down by two goals Dave Bolland and Johnny Oduya scored to force overtime.  During the third overtime, a shot from Michal Rozsival hit Dave Bolland in the high slot and then bounced off Andrew Shaw and a score to end of the longest game of the year. The jubilation that was seen on the ice could also be felt in Chicago.
We are looking forward to being stranded more often maybe nest time in New York, Boston, Miami, or San Francisco next time.
